Beadling Sports Club Historical Painting 1898-1937
Intro: Good Afternoon
We are here today to dedicate and unveil this beautiful historical painting dedicated in the memory of the coal miners and families who immigrated to the town of Beadling in the 1890’s and the great and rich soccer tradition that has made our club what it today and still exists because of the hard work, tradition and commitment of the
Beadling Soccer Club headed by Denny.

Thank you to our artist Yelena Lamm for her insightful interpretation of our vision. What a beautiful work of art!
Thank you to our board members who supported this project that’s been ongoing for a few years and to all our
members who supported us as well. My hope is that this painting will further enlighten you on our clubs history.

“Special Thanks” to Guy & Bitsy Bellaver who helped guide and steer me in the right direction. Their thoughts,
ideas and visuals were invaluable in making our decision for this artwork. *Guy was a former president & steward
of this club and was born and raised here. He is a son of a miner and knows the past history of this town as well as
Bitsy. Guy is also a professional sculptor.
Myself, Rick Denault, Mark Tomlinson and Mike Russman interviewed probably 8 to 10 artists.
Guy and Bitsy called out to around 400 associated artists of Pittsburgh.
Out of those artists who responded, 11 were interviewed and 4 were commissioned and
were paid by the Bellavers to submit a rendering. Of those, 2 artists were discussed in
great detail. Yelena Lamm became our choice – “Thankfully”.
She depicted what our theme was and embodied all of what we were trying to emphasize.
The painting embarks what the hardworking miners and their families had to endure and what soccer has done for this small town and proud community.
This was not a destination, but rather a journey.
I have learned, as well as my good friends, Life’s lessons in this town.
In today’s world some might say it was abuse or bullying.
We called it growing up right with respect, honesty and caring.
Talked to:i.e.: (Guy, Penny, Joe, Bob, Steve, Tom, Walt)
** Wouldn’t want to have grown up anywhere else!
